Parent Ministry
So, has your kid been listening lately? How sure are you that all you have taught him has really set in? The lessons that life taught you, is your child taking your word on those, or is he learning the hard way. Has she been stopping to ask your opinion of her friends, her hobbies, her Facebook page? Do you need a bigger megaphone to get through to him?
The next time these things are running through your head, ask yourself this question: “How often do I treat God like my child treats me?” How often do I run to him second or third ... or last ... when I need help making a decision? How often do I know how He wants me to act in a situation, but fail to trust Him and end up doing things my own way? If it seems like God might need a bigger megaphone for us to hear Him, then in reality we probably need to re-evaluate our priorities, and how much we really trust in Him. Do you remember 1 Kings 19? God didn’t want to speak to Elijah through an earthquake, or a gale-force wind, or fire, but through a gentle breeze. Have you been stopping to listen to God long enough to hear that gentle whisper? Today, let’s make that the norm instead of the exception. Today, “draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”
And P.S., while you are there with Him, remember that your prayers will do more to get the attention of your kids than the best megaphone money can buy.

BOOKS THE MONTH
:: Table for Two by Amy Pierson
This resource not only provides a basic format for discipleship, but a starting point for this process by teaching a simple way to study the Bible. Many discipleship books have a teacher to student format, but with Table for Two you'll learn how to rely on the Holy Spirit as teacher. The versatile format allows for both girls (ages 10-110) to grow and disciple each other through mutual mentoring.
:: Bringing Up Boys by Dr. James Dobson
Parents, teachers, and others involved in shaping the character of boys have lots of questions. In Bringing Up Boys, Dr. Dobson tackles these questions and offers advice and encouragement based on a firm foundation of biblical principles.
